Patient Advocacy

I never thought it would happen in the United States, but it has. We are critically close to running out of some chemotherapy drugs. It came as a shock to all of us, when we realized how severely the problem of drug shortages has started to affect our patients. The following case is but one example.

Formed in 2003, the Community Oncology Alliance (COA), led by Executive Director Ted Okon, has been well established nationally as the only nonprofit organization advocating solely for community oncologists and their patients. As a result, COA has a very strong presence on Capitol Hill, representing its physicians and community center practice administrators from all across the country.
